The meals system is the heart of the community. It’s the best way to get to know your neighbors, either by teaming up to put on a meal, or just showing up to enjoy good food.
Whether coming home from work or getting out of the house, common meals are a welcome break from the every-day dinner planning, shopping, cooking and cleaning routine.
How does it work? Community meals are offered 4-5 nights a week: Sunday through Thursday. There is always a vegetarian option if meat is served. Participation is optional and on a scheduled basis, but all who wish to eat take turns either cooking or cleaning.
Two cooks and two cleaners manage every meal. The head cook chooses the menu and shops for ingredients; the assistant cook usually shows up to chop and prep at least two hours before dinner time. Head cooks get additional credit in the meals system because of the extra time dedicated to planning and shopping for the meal.
